SUSTAINABLE CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCE
In 2020, Exceed Creative delivered Australia’s first-ever, 100% sustainable Christmas experience for the Central Coast Council. Our team designed and manufactured this completely carbon neutral experience around a massive, nine-meter-tall Christmas tree centrepiece.
Crafted with a multi-sensory experience in mind, the tree housed seedling pots bursting with lush, flowering Christmas herbs; Basil, Parsley, Rosemary, Thyme, Tarragon and Sage, creating a floral decoration that provides both visual and aromatic excitement for visitors.
To accomplish this unique feature, Exceed Creative collaborated with TV personality and gardening guru Jordan Sly of Wormticklers Nursery to grow quality chemical free seedlings using permaculture principles and organic techniques. Using bio-degradable "coir" pots that are planted directly offering no transplant shock to plants, nor carbon footprint or landfill to the environment.
The living decorations’ bounding colours will be further emphasised with Christmas bud lighting strung throughout the foliage, and by multipoint stars – recycled and repurposed from pre-existing materials. Measuring at 600mm in diameter, the stars will illuminate in a dynamic array of hues thanks to an internal, programmable lighting system. With sustainability at the forefront of this experience, a solar-powered electrical system operated irrigation for the seedlings and lighting for the entire activation.
Following the dismantle of the activation all 1700 seedling pots were donated to schools, charities, community groups and gardens to be enjoyed for years to come.
